Economic development and the impact of science
The Bond Center's innovative culture has enabled our 38 faculty investigators from 13 academic units to form unique collaborations rarely seen on college campuses. Engineers are working with cancer biologists, plant scientists with biomedical researchers, lab researchers with field biologists, and information technology experts with biologists of many stripes.
Life sciences research provides a major economic opportunity for Missouri, and the Bond Life Sciences Center is committed to an active role in the transfer of scientific knowledge for the benefit of our state, nation and the world. Our LSC scientists hold more than 70 patents for discoveries with commercialization potential, with much more patentable work in progress.
In our short history, Bond Center faculty investigators have attracted over $75 million in extramural research funds - more than what it cost to construct the facility and with an economic impact of nearly double that amount - and are recognized as leaders across campus and around the world in the plant sciences, neuromuscular research, infectious diseases and bioengineering.
We encourage entrepreneurship and seek collaborations with organizations which have the capability of moving science from the lab to real world uses.
