Vivek Shrestha is a Ph.D. candidate in Dr. Angelovici’s lab. Shrestha studied plant sciences during his undergraduate degree at Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and his master’s degree from South Dakota State University. Then, after, he joined the University of Missouri, Columbia, to pursue his Ph.D. His Ph.D. dissertation seeks to uncover the genetic architecture of seed amino acid composition in Maize. Shrestha utilizes the quantitative genetics methods coupled with the system biology approach to dissect the underlying genetic regulators of seed amino acid composition. The research aims to help plant breeders develop better quality protein maize that includes high lysine and tryptophan without any yield penalty which will be beneficial for both developing and developed countries as food and feed respectively.
